Hideaway at Highlands Hotel to explore
Jersey’s amazing variety of coastal and
inland bird life.
The mild island climate is paradise for many
breeds. Brent Geese overwinter here but as they
say goodbye with the arrival of spring, other
birds appear. Many migrating birds use the island
as a stopping off point - Wheatears are usually
the first to visit, holidaying briefly on their
journey northwards from the Sahara. Highlands
is situated in the southwest corner of this bird
haven overlooking rocky outcrops near the famous
Corbière Lighthouse, so binoculars are
essential.
Ornithologists should not miss the south-eastern
area either, since it is designated a Ramsar Site,
with outstanding wetland habitats. Puffins come
in to breed on the north coast so it’s worth
traversing the whole island in search of unusual
sitings. You can even take Kayak trips, allowing
you to approach silently otherwise inaccessible
parts of the coastline.
Contact Highlands today and we will help you
and your fellow ornithologists enjoy the best
that Jersey can offer. We’ll be happy to
arrange trips and transport, tailor made to your
own requirements. Just bring yourself and we’ll
do the rest.
